According to the Daily Express, Mikel Arteta is now top of Arsenal’s list to replace the recently departed Unai Emery, and Manchester City now face a battle to keep hold of Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man.
Since Pep Guardiola’s previous number two, Domenec Torrent, left to pursue his own managerial career, Mikel Arteta has stepped up into the position. Many have touted the Spaniard to become the first team coach at Manchester City when Pep Guardiola leaves the club, but the latest report suggests he is ready to take on the vacant Arsenal position.
Manchester City want to keep Mikel Arteta until the summer at least, and see him as a vital part of the club’s backroom staff. Pep Guardiola’s contract at the club is up in 18 months, and the Catalan has said his number two is ready for the step up.
“He will have success, yes. But he decided to stay – thanks – but everyone decides what he’ll do in the future. Sooner or later it’s going to happen.“
“He’s a young manager, he’s 37, so he is so young but he has experience already to handle big players and teams and when it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen“
Mikel Arteta was a key component of Manchester City’s domestic treble-winning side and racked up 427 appearances over his illustrious playing career.
