Manchester City have been struggling in the centre-back area all season, particularly with Aymeric Laporte ruled out for a large majority of the campaign through injury. Adding to that, John Stones has struggled to stay fit, whilst losing Vincent Kompany in the summer to Anderlecht left City light of options.
The report states that City ‘wonder about signing’ Umtiti, however, with the defenders injury concerns, they would see that as a risk. The last thing the Blues would need at this moment in time is another injury prone player, with numerous important members of the squad already picking up injuries.
L’Equipe also says the club are worried about the ‘physical fragility’ of Umtiti, with the Frenchman missing the majority of last season with a consistent knee problem.
Umtiti was a major part of the French squad who won the World Cup in 2018 and, before his injuries, was forming a good partnership with fellow Barcelona star, Clement Lenglet. Manchester City are said to be only watching the Frenchman at the moment, and the feeling around the player is that he wants to stay in Spain for a few more years.
