Angeliño (22) returned to the Etihad Stadium via a buy-back clause this summer after a successful season at PSV, which saw the Spaniard awarded the Eredivisie Talent of the Year. However, PSV have struggled to replace him, with midfielder Michael Sadílek being deployed out of position in order to cover the hole Angeliño left behind.
De Telegraaf claim that PSV are hoping to bring Angeliño back to Holland to sort their defensive woes. They believe a loan deal to be a ‘more logical option’ than a permanent return. The Dutch champions Ajax are also said to be seriously interested in Angeliño, viewing him as the long-term replacement for the eventuality of Nicolás Tagliafico’s departure.
€20m is the figure that De Telegraaf suggest would be Ajax’s offer for the Spaniard. There is no comment about City’s attitude towards a possible move for Angeliño, but it would be reasonable to assume that there is no appetite within the club to move the player on at the moment.
Benjamin Mendy’s performances have come under serious scrutiny recently. The Frenchman has struggled for form following his injury problems, and was the target of much criticism in City’s recent 2-2 draw with Newcastle. Angeliño, who played the full match last night in an invigorating 4-1 win at Turf Moor, has looked a far better asset on City’s left-hand side this season in his eight appearances.
With Mendy’s porous performances and Oleksandr Zinchenko yet to return to the match day squad following an injury, it would be a huge surprise if Pep Guardiola was willing to let Angeliño depart so soon after his return to Manchester.
