Man City interest 'intensifies' for Spanish midfielder

Manchester City are stepping up their interest in Napoli midfielder Fabián Ruiz, according to recent reports from Cadena Ser, as relayed by Sport Witness.

23-year-old Ruiz has been linked with City for several weeks now, with Pep Guardiola said to be “in love” with the player last month.

Ruiz, who plays in a creative role, has a contract in Naples until 2023 and the Italian club are keen to extend his deal to ward off interest from other clubs. These reportedly include Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, who would need to pay a “high” release clause if they don’t sign him before he signs a new contract.

With club legend David Silva leaving at the end of the season, City’s alleged pursuit of a new midfielder makes a degree of sense, despite Pep Guardiola claiming that Phil Foden will be trusted to make the step up next year.

Cadena Ser state that talks between Ruiz and his club have stalled amid speculation linking him with the three giant sides, which could indicate that he’s open to a move.

Ruiz was named Golden Player at the U21 Euros last summer and has now made six appearances for Spain’s senior side.
