Man City ‘negotiating’ with River Plate forward – deal completed in the ‘next few days’

Manchester City are ‘negotiating‘ with River Plate over the transfer of 22-year-old attacking midfielder Nicolás De La Cruz – a player Pep Guardiola ‘loves‘ according to journalist Veronica Brunati.

It is claimed that Manchester City are negotiating with the player and references are being provided directly to Pep Guardiola, through the contacts of Mikel Arteta. The assistant to Pep Guardiola is reportedly relaying information on the midfielder from an Argentinean coach.

Further details on the transfer were provided by Portuguese journalist Gonçalo Lopes, who claimed that FC Barcelona are also keen on the 22-year-old, however Pep Guardiola has already spoken directly with the player – possibly suggesting a charm offensive from the Catalan boss that may have swung the decision of the player.

Journalist Lopes went on to suggest that a deal for the player should be complete in the next few days, as City look to take advantage of River Plate’s ‘difficult financial situation’.

However, according to Veronica Brunati, there is still a difference between River Plate’s valuation of the player, and Manchester City’s offer. The Argentinean side are reportedly valuing their man at $30 million and the player’s agent, Paco Casal, is in contact with the Premier League champions.

Although Nicolás De La Cruz appears to be at the forefront of Manchester City’s focus at River Plate, he is not the only player being monitored by the club, according to Veronica Brunati.

This season, the Uruguayan attacking midfielder has scored four goals and provided four assists in just nine Superliga appearances for River Plate – a goal contribution every 84 minutes.
