Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has suggested his club and country teammate, Leroy Sane, could return to action ‘in the next few weeks‘, in an interview with RTL as relayed by Sport Witness.
Sane, who has been ruled out through injury since the Community Shield victory over Liverpool back in August, has been subject to heavy speculation regarding his future at the Premier League champions. It has recently reported that the Germany international is on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich, a move that his City teammates are preparing for, and would have made the transfer in the summer – if it wasn’t for his unfortunate injury.
Leroy Sane’s Manchester City and Germany teammate Ilkay Gundogan, has spoken to German media outlet RTL, as relayed by Sport Witness, suggesting that the 23-year-old is on track to complete a swift recovery process.
Ilkay Gundogan said: “He made a positive impression. The good thing about him is that Leroy is now past the worst stage and will be able to return to the pitch in the next few weeks and play with the ball there soon after.
So I hope he will be available to participate again in the middle of the second half of the season and also be available for the European Championship.”
It’s certainly encouraging news for Manchester City fans, who will be wanting the services of the lightning-quick winger as soon as possible. City currently sit nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, following the defeat at Anfield. However, the return of Sane in the new calendar year could see City put in a serious challenge in the later stages of the season.
