Manchester City are targeting Leicester City centre-back duo Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu, with Premier League rivals Arsenal also scouting the latter, according to Sky Sports and Turkish Football respectively.
Pep Guardiola’s struggles in the defensive department have been no secret this campaign, with injuries playing a significant role in the blues’ nine point gap with league leaders Liverpool. Injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones, as well as a failure to recruit in the summer window may have forced City to shop in the upcoming January window, should the right player become available.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester City officials are looking at Leicester City’s defensive duo as a potential solution to their problems in that department. Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu have played a significant part in the Foxes success so far this campaign, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ side second in the league table.
Cast your mind back to 2017, and Manchester City showed a strong interest in recruiting Jonny Evans from West Brom, but had a number of bids in the region of £18 million rejected. Evans ultimately made the move to the King Power just a year later, for £3.5 million, while City went on to recruit Aymeric Laporte.
As for Caglar Soyuncu, Sky Sports‘ same report includes the Turkish international as another name Manchester City officials may be interested in, following his meteoric rise to success in the Premier League this season.
Turkish Football claim that City have already been in contact with the player’s representatives over a potential move to the Etihad Stadium, despite Leicester stating they are not interested in selling him in the upcoming January transfer window.
The same report suggests Arsenal may also be in the race to sign the 23-year-old, following their own defensive struggles this campaign. Arsenal and Manchester City are claimed to be two of ‘several Premier League sides’ interested in the defender.
