Manchester City are planning a move for Leicester City and England full-back Ben Chilwell, as a potential replacement for Benjamin Mendy, according to an exclusive report by 90Min.
Pep Guardiola’s side are no strangers to injury problems, in particular in the defensive department, with problems hampering the squad this season. Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Benjamin Mendy have all suffered their own injury setbacks this campaign, and according to 90Min on Friday afternoon, Manchester City officials are growing impatient with the latter.
Since completing a reported £52 million move to the Premier League champions in 2017, Benjamin Mendy has struggled to maintain a consistent run of games in the starting XI with injury problems sustained throughout his time at the Etihad Stadium to date. According to Transfermarkt’s records, the 25-year-old has sustained a total of eight injuries, missing 85 matches as a result.
Manchester City officials are now claimed to be considering a move for Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell, who has played a major part in Leicester City’s fantastic start to the 2019/20 season – seeing his club leapfrog Manchester City, sitting in 2nd place in the Premier League.
90Min have suggested that Manchester City fear ‘they may have made a mistake‘ in overlooking Benjamin Mendy’s personal life during their initial scouting reports of the Frenchman, while he was at AS Monaco during the 2016/17 season.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester City would have to battle off fierce competition for the 22-year-old, with Premier League rivals Chelsea also claimed to be interested in the England international’s services.
