Man City ‘monitoring’ teenage Gillingham goalkeeper – Everton, Celtic, Leipzig all interested

Manchester City are one of five major European clubs monitoring 17-year-old Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh, according to Mike Minay of BBC Radio Manchester.

The Premier League champions are monitoring the teenager alongside Scottish champions Celtic, RB Leipzig, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton of the Premier League.

Walsh joined his local club Gillingham aged 11, signing a scholarship with the club in late 2017, before signing his first professional contract with the Gills in May 2019. Walsh has continued his meteoric rise for his club by making his senior debut in September 2019 – a 3-2 defeat in the EFL Trophy against Colchester United.

Manchester City haven’t been hugely graced with prospects in the goalkeeping position in recent months, mainly due to the dominance of first team stars such as Hart and Ederson. Angus Gunn and Aro Muric have both shown promise, however moves elsewhere have hindered their progression at the Etihad to some extent.
