Man City ‘closely following’ Mexico U17 captain – player ‘supported’ by Mexico legend

Manchester City have been linked with the signing of Mexico U17 captain Alejandro Gómez, and have ‘closely followed‘ him for several months, according to TUDN via Sport Witness.

The centre-back, not to be confused with the Atalanta captain of the same name, has already made his full debut for Atlas in Liga MX and has made an impression on Manchester City scouts – who are claimed to be watching every game that the teenager plays in.

Atlas appear to be aware of Manchester City’s interest in taking their prized asset, and would be ‘willing to listen‘ should the Premier League champions submit an official bid for the Mexican.

Former Barcelona stopper Rafael Márquez, who now serves as Atlas’ sporting president, also appears eager to ‘support‘ Gómez in ‘making the leap‘ to Europe – in doing so becoming the latest young star added to the City Football Group’s growing portfolio.

So far this season the teenager has nine appearances in all competitions (including for the national side), keeping three clean sheets and scoring one goal in the process.
