On Tuesday night, the publication reported more details about the clash between the two players that took place on Monday at England’s training camp, and has resulted in Raheem Sterling not being considered for Thursday’s game against Montenegro.

According to the new claims, Sterling attempted to put Liverpool defender Joe Gomez in a headlock, and grazed his eye accidentally with a piece of jewellery.

Previously it had been reported that Sterling asked “Still the big man?”, after Gomez offered a handshake. However, it’s important to note the nature of the source and that these details were not revealed during the initial breaking of the story at the start of the week.

These details follow a clash on the pitch between the two players during Liverpool’s win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, during which Sterling squared up to Gomez and appeared to say “Don’t f**k with me, Joe“.

Since the incident, though, the two appear to have reconciled; “Both Joe and I have had words, figured things out and moved on” said the winger in a statement on his personal Instagram page.

Sterling continued; “Me and Joe are good, we both understand it was a 5-10 second thing. It’s done, we move forward and not make this bigger than it is.”
