In an exclusive interview with SoccerBible, Pep Guardiola has openly praised talented Manchester City youngster Phil Foden, claiming the teenager is ‘one of the most talents players’ he’s ever met in his career.
It is a well-known fact amongst Manchester City fans that the Catalan boss is a huge fan of the Stockport-born teenager, making his feelings clear on Foden’s talent very clear in recent interviews.
“I think Phil is one of the most talented players I’ve ever met in my career. First he is so young, so we need to go step by step with his career – maybe at another club he would have played more and more minutes.”
“This is a guy who has a fantastic future in front of him. He can do whatever he wants because he has an incredible work ethic and he’s a fighter. An incredibly talented player. Man City is lucky to have him. We have to help him, protect him, and the rest depends on him. And he will do it.”
Phil Foden is rapidly approaching his 50th appearance for the Manchester City first team, before his 20th birthday. However, the youngster will be eager to earn even more playing time, averaging just 38.4 minutes per appearance so far for the blues.
Since becoming a permanent member of the first-team set-up, Foden has scored a total of eight goals across four competitions, registering four assists in the process. Most notably, the man dubbed the ‘Stockport Iniesta‘ scored the winning goal in Manchester City’s vital victory over Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium, in last season’s Premier League run-in that would see the club retain their league title.
