With the disappointment of Wednesday nights exit from the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid still fresh in the minds, attentions now turn to Continental Cup action against Birmingham.
So far in the Continental Cup it’s been a mixed bag for City. Starting off in brilliant fashion with an emphatic 5-0 win at home to Leicester, followed by a not so brilliant 2-0 away defeat in the Manchester Derby not so long ago.
With Nick Cushing now winless in four games, he’ll be earmarking this one as a hopeful way of regaining high spirits around the squad. Of course, City have already beaten Birmingham in the WSL, 3-0, but with the form City have been on, it won’t be so straightforward.
Keira Walsh serves the second of her three match ban for her straight red in the last Continental Cup fixture, hence will not be involved tomorrow. Laura Coombs is a possibility after training in recent days with the squad, but a start is very unlikely. Karen Bardsley and Aofie Mannion remain long-term absentee’s.
Ellen White will be looking to open her Manchester City account after snippets were shown on Wednesday night of just what she’s capable of. Pauline Bremer may also be hoping for another start after her late goal in mid-week gave City a fighting chance with five minutes to go.
With the Blues looking to shake off the recent bad form, Birmingham is fixture City really must win. It’s up to the big characters in the team to now lead by example and pick City out of the little rut they’ve been on.
Predicted XI: Benameur, Fidalgo, Houghton, Bonner, Stokes, Scott, Weir, Wullaert, Beckie, Stanway, White
