The manager of Lima-based Alianza Lima has confirmed, while speaking to Fútbol Como Cancha, that Manchester City are “in talks” with the club for the 16-year-old, but was keen to stress that “there is nothing signed yet“.

This development follows reports earlier in the year, claiming that Manchester City were eyeing the player, before one of Aguilar’s teammates surprised journalists by all but confirming a move was agreed – this relayed by Sport Witness at the beginning of the month.

Forward Adrián Balboa told the press in Peru: “Kluiverth was bought by Manchester City for something… I see him well to play in the First Division, because of his personality, even though he’s still too young to play in a team with as much pressure as Alianza“.

There are even reports in Peru that Manchester City are planning on buying Aguilar and immediately loaning him out to a team in Spain, possibly including second-tier Girona, with whom Manchester City have a close relationship through City Football Group.

Loaning the youngster out to a team where he has a chance at first-team minutes and already speaks the language would make sense from City’s perspective, and wouldn’t be the first time the club have done similar with a South American player – but whether they see Aguilar as a financial investment or a possible first-team player at the Etihad is yet to be seen.

Aguilar, who plays primarily at right-back, has played nine matches for Peru’s U17 side.
