Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta is ‘still on the radar’ at Arsenal, should their current manager Unai Emery ‘run out of time’ at the Emirates Stadium, according to John Cross of the Mirror.
Emery, who is seemingly under significant pressure after a run of poor results at Arsenal, could be the next Premier League boss to be replaced should officials at the club run out of patience with the Spaniard.
According to the Mirror, Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man at the Etihad Stadium is ‘still on the radar‘ of the relevant members in Arsenal’s hierarchy. Arteta is seen by many Manchester City fans as a potential successor to the Catalan boss, when his time at the club comes to an end.
Arsenal were rumoured to have been interested in Mikel Arteta last year, prior to the appointment of Unai Emery from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. The former Arsenal midfielder has been linked with a number of high-profile clubs in recent months, with links to vacancies at Newcastle United and Olympique Lyonnais.
Pep Guardiola has been very public with his praise for his number two at the Etihad, stating in September 2019, “He is already an incredible manager and he’ll have incredible success in his future.
“He’s a young, young manager but already has experience of handling big players and teams and it (management) is going to happen. Sooner or later.”
