García, 21, is a midfielder who scored one goal in four senior appearances for Manchester City after coming through the club’s academy. In July 2019, he rejoined Sporting Gijón – the second-division Spanish side where he began his youth career – for a club-record €4m.
But COPE claim the Citizens are keeping tabs on the Spaniard, and have a clause in his transfer contract that gives them the option to buy him back. The value of any transfer would depend on when it happens and whether Sporting have been promoted to La Liga or not, but COPE describe it as a ‘high economic amount‘.
Another reported stipulation in the deal is that City have first refusal on the player for the immediate future. This means that, should another club make an offer for García, the Etihad club must be told and will have the opportunity to match said offer.
García has impressed at the start of the season for Sporting, scoring twice in twelve appearances to date.
