Welcome to the first City Xtra Fantasy Premier League Update and Tips release of the season. Throughout the season, we’ll be taking you through changes to the Top Ten within the City Xtra Premier League, providing you with the three highest scoring City players of the week, as well as discussing our Top three Captaincy Picks for the upcoming gameweek.
If our tips happen to provide you with green arrows, or if they result in a dreaded red arrow, we are not accepting responsibility, however if you do feel the need to thank (probably not) or slate us (highly likely), the author’s Twitter handle will be down below…
City Xtra Premier League Update:
The City Xtra Premier League is in full swing with over 700 players battling it out to win a Manchester City shirt of their choice. Let’s take a look at how the Top 10 is shaping up after the first 10 gameweeks.
First things first, we need to address that the author did not take on this series purely because he is second in the division, no matter what you may believe. The current Top 10 is extremely tight, with less than 50 points separating first and tenth place with some great team names too. Congratulations to all who feature here at the moment, although there is bound to be huge change over the course of the season.
Top Three City Players of the Week:
3. David Silva – 9 Points
City’s greatest ever player played 90 minutes against Aston Villa on Saturday, and got his foot on the end of De Bruyne’s whipping cross to score himself a goal and earn himself a bonus point. Despite his minutes being managed this season, El Mago currently stands on three goals and five assists.
2. Ederson – 9 Points
FPL managers who have forked out the Brazilian’s £6.1 million price tag this season will not be disappointed so far as Ederson added another clean sheet to his tally on Saturday. Ederson has the most clean sheets in the League with five and is this season’s best performing goalkeeper with 44 points.
1. Raheem Sterling – 11 Points
Raheem Sterling continued his fine start to the season on Saturday and was a constant thorn in Villa’s side. Sterling’s attacking threat paid off in the second half as he slotted home his seventh Premier League goal of the season and collected all three bonus points.
Top Three Captaincy Picks for GW11:
3. Kevin De Bruyne (£10.2m) – Southampton (H)
The Belgian maestro has not disappointed FPL owners this season and is currently this season’s second-highest points scorer with 72 points. De Bruyne became the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 50 assists, with him currently standing on two goals and 10 assists already.
If that alone hasn’t convinced you to pass him the armband for this weekend’s tie against the Saints, KDB has recorded points in all but one Premier League game this season and is the most creative player in the game with 539.8 points.
2. Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) – Southampton (H)
Despite not starting City’s last two Premier League games, I believe Sergio will lead the line this weekend against Southampton. City’s all-time leading goalscorer is currently the second highest scoring forward (62 points) having scored 8 goals and 3 assists in 9 games this season. Aguero has scored 4 goals in 5 Premier League home games this season and could significantly add to that this week against a Southampton side which shipped 9 goals against Leicester in Gameweek 10.
1. Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) – Southampton (H)
The third and final pick for captaincy in Gameweek 11 is another City player and it is no surprise that it is Raheem Sterling. I will be giving Sterling the armband this weekend as I fully expect him to continue his fine form against a leaky Southampton defence. Southampton have conceded the most goals (25) in the league this season and if City’s forwards are on form, Sterling is likely to add to his mightily impressive 64 points already amassed in this FPL campaign.
