A bizarre banner was held on the footbridge over Alan Turing Way at the Etihad Stadium today, ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa reading: “Love City, Hate PUMA”.
Kit manufacturers PUMA took over at the Etihad Stadium from Nike, in a multi-million sponsorship that appeared to please the large majority of City fans when the deal was initially announced.
However, a small group of City fans unfurled a banner on the bridge connecting the club’s training ground with the stadium that read ‘Love City, Hate PUMA’. It is not understood what the banner was specifically aimed at, however some have claimed it could be a reference to the ‘boycott PUMA’ campaign in retaliation to the brands sponsorship of the Israeli Football Association.
The majority of Manchester City fans however, have reacted negatively to the banner, and have supported the sponsorship of the club’s new kit manufacturer.
