Manchester City right-back João Cancelo was full of praise for Pep Guardiola, when speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Atalanta at the Etihad Stadium.
It’s been a relatively difficult start to life in Manchester for Cancelo, since arriving from Italian giants Juventus in the summer. However, the Portuguese international was quick to praise his new boss when asked about his new role at with the Premier League champions.
Cancelo said: “When I came here I came here to learn. Pep [Guardiola] is the best manager in football. It took me some time to learn, but it’s important the team wins. I’ve been happy to wait for my moment and I took the opportunity to play [vs Palace].“
After briefly praising his Catalan manager, Cancelo was then quizzed directly on his thoughts on the Manchester City boss, with the full-back reiterating his previous praise. Cancelo said: “For me, he’s the best manager in football today. I came here to learn from him and I think that when I play for him, I always learn something.“
With Kyle Walker struggling with form and now a slight injury problem, João Cancelo will be looking to pick up a run of form in Manchester City side, especially after impressing in the 0-2 victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
