Ask The Opposition – Manchester City vs Atalanta (w/ AtalantaNige)

Atalanta will become the fifth different Italian side to face Manchester City in UEFA European competition when they travel to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Ahead of this game against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, we spoke to international correspondent for @AtalantaNige to get his insight on our opponents!

Thanks for joining us ahead of Tuesday night’s game! Atalanta have not only scored the most goals in Serie A so far this season, but they have also conceded more than any other side above 15th. What would you put this down to?

Atalanta score a lot of goals because we play with a very attacking style. It’s the classic “if you score three goals we will score four” mentality. We also have two highly creative players in Papu Gomez and Josip Ilicic who, on their day, have the ability to take anyone apart.

Atalanta squandered a three-goal lead against Lazio in the second-half at the weekend. Do you expect that result to have any impact on the mentality of Gasperini’s players going into Tuesday’s game?

The second half collapse again Lazio on Saturday was really frustrating, considering how well we played in the first-half. We know we will give up chances with our attacking approach, but when you’re 3-0 up, you should be seeing the game out.

Hopefully there is no hangover going into the game against Manchester City – I honestly don’t think there will be. The Champions League is a big deal for us. It’s the first time we have featured at this level in 112 years of Bergamo football, so Gian Piero Gasperini and the team will be focused on putting on a good display.

Duvan Zupata has been ruled out of this game through injury. How much will Atalanta miss his ability in this game?

Our most dangerous player is Papu – he plays wide on the left or as a number ten. He is a bag of tricks – works hard, captains the side and is an icon in Bergamo. I personally don’t see us missing Duvan Zapata. Obviously we would like to see him play, but we have Luis Muriel and he was brought in to the side for games like this.

Atalanta Predicted Starting XI and Score Prediction?

With José Luis Palomino and Simon Kjaer ruled out through injury I expect us to line us like this: Gollini, Toloi, Djimsiti, Maseillo, Castagne, de Roon, Freuler, Gosens, Papu, Ilicic, Muriel.

Hopefully we can be brave on Tuesday night and get a point! I’m going for a 1-1 draw!
