Another weekend, another incident involving Manchester City and VAR. Wilfried Zaha’s clear shove on Kevin De Bruyne inside the Crystal Palace penalty area went under review, before being unsurprisingly adjudged as a fair challenge. It’s fair to say City fans weren’t very happy…
With Manchester City leading 0-2, Crystal Palace were pressing on to get back into the game. That is until Kevin De Bruyne looked to have won Manchester City a penalty, after Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha appeared to have shoved the Belgian over inside the penalty area.
Despite the review from VAR officials, the decision not to award the penalty stood, leaving several Manchester City fans angered by the call. Here’s how they reacted:
It’s not the first time VAR has caused controversy in a Manchester City game this season. The champions have had a crucial winning goal ruled out in the 2-2 draw with Spurs, while David Silva was adjudged to have ‘dived’ at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.
Pep Guardiola was also frustrated by the decision to not award Manchester City a penalty at Selhurst Park. The Catalan boss provided his usual sarcastic response to Sky Sports, when asked about his view on the penalty shout; “It’s diving. It’s diving, it’s diving. Every weekend it is diving. Bournemouth, here. But against Tottenham, it was hands.”
