Pep Guardiola has sprung a surprise on many this afternoon by starting the game at Selhurst Park with no natural central defenders, despite Eric Garcia and John Stones included in the travelling squad.
There are four changes from the side that started the defeat to Wolves before the international break. Nicolas Otamendi and Kyle Walker drop out of the back-four through illness and injury, while Rodri and Benjamin Mendy come into the defensive line.
Kevin De Bruyne comes straight back into the midfield, after recovering from his minor injury problem, sustained prior to the game against Wolves. Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus come into the attacking three, replacing Riyad Mahrez and Sergio Aguero.
John Stones also returns to the bench, after recovering from yet another injury that has kept him out of the sides previous few games. Rodrigo Hernandez starting at central defence does however prove Guardiola is putting trust in senior players out of position, as opposed to giving young Eric Garcia an opportunity.
