With yet another international break now behind us, Premier League action returns this weekend. This time, City make the trip down to London for a teatime showdown with Crystal Palace.
The Blues’ last league fixture saw Wolves manage to do what most teams could only dream of, leave the Etihad Stadium with three points and a clean sheet. The 2-0 defeat came as a big shock to everyone and acted as yet another early dent in City’s title hopes.
Now that time has passed since that defeat, and the squad is all back together from international duties, Saturday’s match against Palace would be a perfect place to bounce back for Pep’s side.
Guardiola revealed in his press conference quite possibly the best news any City fan could hear right now: Kevin De Bruyne is back from injury. John Stones and Benjamin Mendy have all trained well during the week too according to the manager.
The boss also said Sergio Aguero is fine after his recent car accident.
Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane are still out injured.
CITY XTRA PREDICTED XI
Once again, I’d be very surprised to not see Ederson start in net on Saturday.
For the defensive line, I think Kyle Walker will play in his usual right back position ahead of Joao Cancelo. Despite being back in training after sustaining a muscle injury, I would not expect John Stones to be thrown back into the defence straight away. So, because of that I think we will see Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho sharing the centre back positions once again. Oleksandr Zinchenko, fresh off his engagement, will complete the back four.
For the midfield, I expect to see Rodri put back in his regular position of central midfield. I think alongside Rodri, David Silva will make up another midfield place after a football free break. As for the remaining midfield place, I can see Pep taking a chance and playing Kevin De Bruyne after recovering from his injury. Right now, he is too important to not play.
In the attacking front three, I would expect to see Sergio Aguero start alongside Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva on the wings.
Manchester City Bench: Claudio Bravo, Joao Cancelo, John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus.
