Good Evening City Fans! Sagas continue to drag on for multiple players today, with an end not looking to be close on the horizon. Leroy Sané, Joao Cancelo, and Thiago Almada and more in today’s transfer roundup!
Sané the Talk On and Off the Pitch
Leroy Sané scores a brace this afternoon in a comfortable 6-1 win over Kitchee as City continue their preseason tour in Asia. He has been very bright since returning from vacation and has been working well with the squad, but the rumours of a move to Bayern are still running as fast as ever. BILD today have reported that Bayern Munich have received “positive” signals about a transfer for the German winger from his representatives. It is said that once City return from their preseason tour, Sané will sit down and have his representatives present Bayern’s plans to him. In addition to this, BILD also state that back in June, Bayern were told by City themselves that Pep Guardiola would be no obstacle in any deal for Leroy Sané
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo have reported today that Bayern Munich are looking to lessen the financial blow of signing Sané or Ousmane Dembelé from Barcelona by including fullback David Alaba in a deal. However, these attempts have brought little success in enticing either club to the table.
For the billionth time, Guardiola was about Sané and his future. This was his response via Simon Stone:
“We want him. We want him to stay. It is not in my hands. Hopefully he stays.”
Bayern are potentially looking at setting a deadline of August 8th, the start of the Premier League season, for Sané to make his decision on his future.
It is sounding like a matter of when and not if Thiago Almada makes his move to the Etihad Stadium. However, he will not be in Manchester for too long upon completion of any deal, with Sporting Lisbon looking at a 2-year loan deal for the Argentine, in connection with the new relationship between the clubs. According to Record Portugal via Sport Witness, this is the only “non-negotiable” request from Sporting as they await an agreement between City and Velez Sarsfield. The Portuguese side believe it will take time for the 18-year-old to adapt to European football, and this is the main reason behind wanting to 2-year loan. The transfer is getting closer, with the terms between the three clubs are “aligned”. City are ready to pay over €20 million for Almada, in an effort to please the club who are attempting to get the player to sign new terms that would increase his release clause to €25 million.
Favourites for Cancelo
According to the Manchester Evening News, City have been potentially working on a new system in training. Pep Guardiola has been working closely with both Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne who have been operating as deep lying midfielders in a double pivot. With this, the fullbacks were encouraged to press higher up the pitch and link up with the wingers. With this system, Kyle Walker would be tasked with doing a lot more attacking than he was in the previous season, where he often moved between right back and right centre back as Zinchenko moved into midfield in possession. Not known for his crossing abilities, a more attacking right back could be on the top of the priority list should this new look be used more often. João Cancelo has been looked at thoroughly this summer, and according to Corriere Torino via tuttojuve.com, City are still favoured in the race for the Portuguese defender, despite difficulties in moving Danilo to a different club. However, Bayern Munich and Barcelona could potentially overtake City for Cancelo, who Juventus want to offload to fund other arrivals.
Official today, Tom Dele-Bashiru has left the Etihad Stadium following the end of his contract, and has signed a 6-year deal with Watford.
Best of luck Tom!
Marlos Moreno’s loan merry-go-round looks set to continue once again this summer. This time, it could be taking him to Portugal, according to O Jogo via Sport Witness. Portimonense are interested, claimed by “people close to the player”. It is possible that the deal could be permanent, but a loan is much more likely for the Colombian.
Another player that could be on the move this summer is Yangel Herrera. Despite impressing on multiple loan spells and for the national side of Colombia, it doesn’t seem as though an appearance in the sky blue and purple is any closer this season. Grada3, relayed by Sport Witness, claim negotiations are underway regarding a move for the midfielder to Granada. However, it is unknown as to whether this move would be yet another loan deal or a permanent move away from the club.
