No Talk, No Bid: The Transfer Round-Up (23/07/19)

It’s all going a bit quiet isn’t it. For many, it seems as though the Manchester City squad is falling into place, if it hasn’t already fallen into place for Pep Guardiola and his backroom staff. There are still the usual name’s that keep cropping up, although the validity of these reports is put into question on a daily basis, given the contradictory nature of these ‘updates’.

Thiago Almada may be the only arrival at the Etihad Stadium between now and the end of the transfer window, and even he could be immediately sent out on loan. Here is your daily round-up of all things Manchester City in the transfer window.

Sky Sports News were on a bit of a roll on Tuesday with their ominous ‘sources’ providing updates on two Manchester City players, albeit one a target at this stage.

According to the SSN, Manchester City still have no interest in selling Leroy Sané to Bayern Munich. Sources at the Etihad have stated that there has not only been no official bid made by the Bundesliga side, but there has also been no talks between the two clubs.

A rather ominous update was provided on the front page of BILD in Germany late on Tuesday evening, with the newspaper stating Bayern Munich have received ‘positive signals‘ regarding the winger’s future.

It’s safe to say you can come back tomorrow for yet more Leroy Sané reports.

They’re not always known for their exclusivity when it comes to transfer reports, however the Thiago Almada saga finally got the Sky Sports News approval on Tuesday morning. According to their ever-reliable sources, Manchester City are in talks with Velez Sarsfield over a deal for the 18-year-old – well, that’s certainly not new. Pep Guardiola himself is said to have ‘identified the Argentine as an emerging talent’ – again, not new.

Now this is where it gets interesting. Portuguese press aren’t known for their accuracy when it comes to Manchester City targets, judging by the coverage of the Bruno Fernandes ordeal over a month ago. Two reports of a contradictory nature were brought to us by Sport Witness. First of all, A Bola claim ‘negotiations have advanced’ between Velez and Manchester City, and the deal is ‘practically closed’. The only thing holding up the deal at this stage is the Argentine club’s attempts to secure a percentage of any future transfer – further proving the belief that Almada is highly-rated by all parties involved in this one.

However, O Jogo completely go against those claims. According to this newspaper, Manchester City’s last bid for the teenager was rejected, and he is getting ‘further away’ now. Velez Sarsfield president Sergio Rapisada stated ‘the offer did not match expectations’.

Strange, to say the least.

His future certainly isn’t set this summer, and yet another club has been included in the rumour ongoing Nicolas Otamendi rumour mill. According to Calcio Mercato in Italy, AC Milan are interested in the Argentine’s signature, and see the Manchester City man as a to their number one target – Dejan Lovren.

Not only does Otamendi ‘reflect the required characteristics’ of Milan, but a solution to signing the Argentina international has also been reported – ‘a longer agreement with lower figures’.

This one has been on the cards for a while now, and freelance journalist Pete O’Rourke reported that Tosin Adarabioyo is poised to seal his loan move to Blackburn Rovers. It will be the second consecutive loan deal for the young defender, after spending last season at the Hawthorns with West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

Stuart Brennan of the MEN added to the updates on Adarabioyo by saying an official announcement on his loan to Ewood Park is expected ‘imminently’.
