Sterling’s Moon Landing Anniversary Tribute – The Transfer Round-Up (20/07/19)

Good Evening Blues! A defeat for our boys today, but a good runout in preseason with some glimpses at what we can expect to see in the season upcoming. Onto the next leg in the tour, with the Community Shield fast approaching!

Almada Chase Continues

With the new relationship between Manchester City and Sporting CF, a few names have been thrown around linking them to a move to the Portuguese side with help from City. And now it seems Thiago Almada of Velez Sarsfield has been identified as the main target.

Because this deal would be City purchasing the Argentine, with a loan to Sporting following immediately, the Portuguese press has been following developments very carefully according to Sport Witness. Today, O Jogo has gone into details about the financial advantage Sporting hold for Almada to leave Sarsfield. The Argentine club have been continuously attempting to reach an agreement on a new contract for the 18-year-old that would raise his release clause from €16 million to €25 million, with the player himself getting a wage increase to €400k a year.

However, Sporting are in a position to offer a substantially bigger amount of around €1.2-1.4 million annually. O Jogo also state that Almada’s agent Augustin Jimenez has returned to South America after his European trip, which included a visit to the Etihad, where he received a new offer from City for the youngster. Claims of a €10 million bid have been rejected, so it is believed that the new offer will be much closer to, if not reaching, the €16 million release clause. Thiago Almada is highly rated by many individuals, including the Argentina national team manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Karl Bites back

Pep Guardiola has made it very obvious in recent days that he is growing tired of the Leroy Sané reports. He has used Bayern as an example of how you should not approach transfer business, and has stated that the club’s have made no contact over the German winger. And now, in a quote from Tobias Altschäffl of BILD, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has shot back at the Spaniard:

“I do not know if Pep [Guardiola] knows everything that’s going on at our club.”

Christian Falk has a very good track record with Bayern information, and states today that everyone is still waiting on Leroy’s decision on his future. Pep Guardiola is also becoming “indignant” with the situation, and wants the rumours to come to an end.

We have seen no sign from the player himself that he is pushing for an exit, but Bayern Munich do not seem to be ready to end their pursuit for German international without a fight. Surely this will come to an end soon enough… right?
