As the season edges ever closer and Pep Guardiola begins to work on his final squad for the campaign, transfer stories are becoming less prominent each day. It all seems like its the loose ends that are being tied up, as seen by today’s movements with updates on Tosin Adarabioyo and Taylor Richards. Here’s your daily transfer round-up…
Poach, Sleep, Repeat…
The Bayern Munich approach (or poaching) make of it what you will is becoming relentless. It appears that Bayern have ran out of club officials, players and club cult heroes to persuade Leroy Sané to join so they’ve now gone back to former ‘club hero’ Lothar Matthäus to have his say to ESPN this time. Matthäus has suggested that if Sané joins Bayern he will be the poster boy of German football going on to say:
“I really think Bayern Munich [would] like to spend a lot of money, more than €80 million (£72m/$90m). In City he’s not happy in one way, and City is ready to give him up. But the main answer has to be from Leroy Sane. Does he like to come to Bayern Munich, yes or no?” When he says yes, Bayern will contact Manchester City,” Matthaus said. “There’s a good relationship between Bayern Munich’s board and Pep Guardiola and I think they will find a way. And then he will be a big star in Germany, maybe the biggest face of German football in the last years because for the money that Bayern would like to spend on him, he can be the new face of Bayern Munich.”
Mundo Deportivo have reported that Bayern’s chances of signing Sané are evaporating quickly because of the £100 million price tag that City value him at, Pep Guardiola has also signalled that Sané will still be at City next season at his at his latest press conferance.
Turn off De Ligt?
Juventus have confirmed the capture of Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax for a £67.5 million, this will mean lights out for one of the five centre back’s at Juventus’ manager Maurizio Sarri’s disposal. As we all know, Sarri typically prefers a 4-3-3 formation and therefore five players vying for two centre back positions makes no sense, you’d think at least one player will have to be offloaded.
Mundo Deportivo have reported (via Instagram likes) that Leonardo Bonucci may be leaving the Allianz Stadium. It is said that Bonucci is open to the idea of moving abroad and ‘could be tempted’.
Instagram however as it so often does in the modern day transfer market has identified that Manchester City and PSG are favourites due to Bonucci liking posts of each club recently, read in to that what you wish.
City secure Felix..
Developments on the City and Sporting partnership appear to be moving on swimmingly and today has seen City confirm the signing of Felix Correira according Duncan Castles who told the Transfer Window Podcast.
The deal is expected to be £3 million with performance related add-ons potentially seeing the fee rise to £6 million, Castles went on to say:
“What [Sporting] have done is agreed a deal with another Manchester club for one of their younger players, Felix Correia, the Portugal Under-19 winger who is very highly regarded and thought of as a good category and class of player who could turn into a future Portugal international.
Manchester City have paid €3.5m [£3m] as an initial fee, with another €3.5m of bonuses to come depending on his performances going forward. That deal hasn’t been formally announced, but the figures are all in place for Sporting and they’re happy with it and ready to sell the right winger to England later on this summer.”
However, the deal appears to be done and dusted according to VBet who have stated that City have signed Felix Correira from Sporting with the player saying:
“I signed a deal for Manchester City. But I’m fully focused on this championship [Euro Under 19] I’m looking forward to working hard and join the main team. I admire him [Guardiola] a lot. The few times that I talked to him I was really impressed. I’m eager to start working with him.”
‘The Next Messi’ refuses contract talks…
The ongoing contract extension between City target, Thiago Almada and his current club Velez Sarsfield appear to be at a dead end. Velez Sarsfield are wanting the player to extend his contract so they can insert a revised release clause in his contract to £23 million instead of the current £14 million.
According to A Bola, the 18 year old Argentine wonder-kid dubbed as the ‘next Messi’ is reluctant to sign a new contract knowing City are interested in signing him.
It’s understood that the City have reportedly lodged an £11 million bid which was rejected but are said to be ready to make another offer as they are serious on getting the deal over the line. A Bola have added today that they believe a City official is in Buenos Aires to complete the signing of Almada for £16m, it’s expected that the player would join Sporting Lisbon on a one or two year loan deal to help develop the player further.
Almada is regarded as an exciting talent who was featured in The Guardians ‘Next Generation’ 2018 alongside other future stars of City such as Eric Garcia, Ivan Ilic and Nabil Touaizi.
Maguire wants to emulate his ‘heroes’
The tedious ongoing transfer speculation around Harry Maguire appears to be moving a step closer to coming to an end according to Sky Sports.
In recent weeks City appear to have cooled off interest in the Leicester and England centre-back allowing cross city rivals Manchester United an advantage in the race for his signature.
Sky Sports suggest that Maguire is edging for a move to United over City as he wants to emulate his ‘heroes’ in Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic
Aston Villa are showing intent in the summer transfer window, although we all know what happened to Fulham last season.
Villa appear to be on the verge of securing Douglas Luiz’s signature from City. Birmingham Live have reported that Luiz has headed over to the USA where Villa are currently on tour to secure his move.
The fee of £15 million is already agreed according to Birmingham Live, it’s now up to Luiz as to whether he wants to secure the move.
