The Big Boys Return – The Transfer Round-Up (12/07/19)

So today was the day the big boys returned. De Bruyne, Sané, Sterling and Bernardo were amongst a host of names returning to the CFA before the pre-season tour to China. And amongst all the excitement, theres been a few rumours dotted around as we bring you todays transfer round-up…

Sané Returns

A number of players have returned to training today, one of which is Leroy Sané. With this, the rumors have began to start flying once again. So buckle up, this one’s going to be long.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has never been one to keep quiet, and he doesn’t ever seem to be thinking about changing that. When quizzed on Sané’s return from vacation, he had this to say:

“Nothing is ultimately decided in that matter. There will be a distance [when Leroy travels with City on tour], sure. But that is not a problem. He (Sane) wanted to think about his future on holiday. We have to wait and see if something moves on. We are ready.
The transfer window is open until September 2. Nothing has been decided at all yet.”

These quotes come from BILD today, as they add that Puma have identified the German international as a major part of their marketing plan in Asia, and see him going on tour as essential. They go on to add that no transfer will be sanctioned unless a replacement is found, with Éverton being a candidate.

Christian Falk, head of Sports BILD, also had his own say on the situation, with Rummenigge supposedly optimistic about Bayern’s chances of getting a deal done. Sané’s entourage have confirmed a decision has not been made by the player, and contact between him and club have resumed following is return from vacation. Sounds like we will be hearing about this for a while yet.

Right Backs of Particular Interest

City’s interest in João Cancelo has been well documented. For some time it seemed as if it was only a matter of time before the Portuguese defender was on his way to the Etihad. However, now it is far less certain. Alfredo Pedullà has reason to believe Barcelona are more serious that City about completing a deal for Cancelo, but like the Manchester club, must offload a right back before being able to get a deal finalised. Juventus will accept a sum between €50 and €55 million.

Calciomercato backs these claims up this afternoon, saying Cancelo will be leaving the Italian Champions this summer, with Spain his most likely destination.

A new but familiar name on the radar is Dani Alves. The Brazilian who Pep Guardiola knows very well is being looked at as an alternative should a deal for Joao Cancelo fail to materialise, according to GloboeSporte. Jack Gaughan also reports that the shock name on Guardiola’s radar is Alves, but a deal is unlikely due to Danilo not having secured a move away. Would you welcome Alves to the Etihad City fans?

Goodbye Fabian?

While much can be said about the heroics of Fabian Delph during the 2017-2018 campaign, coming in for the injured Benjamin Mendy and proving essential to City’s league success, last season was nothing close to the same. With the arrival of Angelino from PSV as well, Delph’s time at the Etihad looks to be coming to a close. And according to Fotomac via Sport Witness, Galatasaray are interested in bringing the English international in this summer. The Turkish side are looking to bring two central midfielders into the side, and Delph is believed to be a prime target.

However, the biggest update in the Fabian Delph situation came late on Friday evening, courtesy of Paul Joyce of the Times. It is now reported that the England international will almost certainly make the move to fellow Premier League side Everton, in a deal worth in the region of £8 million. A medical is set to take place on Saturday, as updated by the Mail.

Potential Youth Moves

Douglas Luiz has been impressing over and over again, but has still not been given the international call up needed to gain a work visa to play for Pep Guardiola’s side. And it seems the midfielder’s time at the club could be coming to an end… for now. Sky Sports and John Percy of the Telegraph report that Luiz is poised to join Aston Villa in a deal worth £15 million. The newly promoted side are confident that after his time in La Liga and featuring heavily for Brazil’s youth team in the Toulon Tournament, that he will be able to gain a visa. Jack Gaughan also states that City will he inserting a buy back clause into the deal for the 21-year-old.

Through City’s new partnership with Sporting Lisbon, a few names have popped up as potential players that City could sign before sending on loan to the Portuguese side. According to TyC Sports, City have made an offer of €12 million for Vélez Sarsfield midfielder Thiago Almada. The 18-year-old has a release clause in his contract of €25 million. The partnership between the sides could be what helps Sporting Lisbon get this deal over the line, according to Record Portugal, with O Jogo adding City are interested in getting the deal done because they see Almada as a potential future option for the their squad.

Manu Garcia has returned to the Etihad to train with the City team, but it does not seem like he will he in Manchester for long. El Comercio states that Garcia does not intend on traveling with City on tour, and will instead focus on sorting out his future. Sporting Gijón remain in the race for the midfielder, who personally “will not close the door on a return to Gijón.
