Good Evening Everyone! The wait continues for a big announcement from the club, but there’s plenty to discuss in the rumor department! News on potential centre backs and a special anniversary are the main talking points in today’s transfer roundup!
United Jump Ahead
Both teams in Manchester are not hiding their interest in adding Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire to their squads. While Maguire himself is interested in a move, with a certain club managed by Pep Guardiola particularly peaking his interest reportedly, Leicester are in no rush to let their starman walk out the door. They’re believed to be looking for a world-record fee for a centre-back, topping the £75 million spent by Liverpool on Virgil Van Dijk. And according to Sky Sports today, Leicester City are taking a hard stance on this, rejecting a £70 million offer from Manchester United. After this event, it seems City have began to look at alternatives to bring in this summer.
You Guessed it, City are Interested in Bonucci
Nicolò Schira has consistent in giving updates on City’s potential move for Joao Cancelo, but today he has brought us a new, but also very familiar, face. While Maguire is Pep Guardiola’s first choice centre-back this summer, the club have registered interest in Leonardo Bonucci once again. The Italian has been subject of a ton of speculation about a move to the Etihad in recent years, with Pep being a big admirer of the defender. And now it looks like he could possibly be looked at as an alternative should Leicester not budge on their asking price. The Mirror has also picked up on this story. They believe that Bonucci could be looking to leave the club in search of regular first team football with the imminent arrival of Matthjis de Ligt to the Turin side.
Ake to Become a Blue?
Since struggling to break into the Chelsea first team, Nathan Ake has thrived at Bournemouth. The Dutch international has been a mainstay in the side in recent years, and has been attracting interest from several bigger sides. Coming from L’Équipe, City are looking at the possibility of adding the centre-back to their squad this summer. A deal could be worth around £40 million, a significantly smaller amount than Maguire’s asking price. The 24-year-old has shown himself to be extremely versatile, playing as a centre-back, left back, and defensive midfielder during his time with the Cherries so far.
Happy Anniversary Yaya!
On this day in 2010 City secured the signing of Yaya Touré from Barcelona for £27 million. In the Ivorian’s time with the club, he made 316 appearances, scoring 79 goals and providing 50 assists. He helped City to win 8 titles during his time, and will forever be remembered for moments such as his winner against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final in 2011. Thank you Yaya!
