Good Evening Blues! We’re back again with your daily transfer roundup. It is looking increasingly likely that next week will be a very eventful one for City this summer, so for now we will be playing the waiting game. A couple more players are looked into in more detail, some outgoings are materialising, and some interesting insight about everything that happens behind the scenes before the players are pictures holding up the City kit!
The Ball is in Leroy’s Court
No one having any type of association with Bayern Munich have attempted to keep the club’s interest in Leroy Sané a secret. Names have popped up of potential alternatives should a deal not be able to materialise. However, the German winger has remained the number one target this summer, so much so that other areas of need are being ignored to attempt to be able to fund the deal. From Sky Sports today, Bayern are hoping for some help from Sané himself, with the Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealing Bayern are yet to make an official bid for the player, and are waiting until the 23-year-old gives some signal of intent on his future. Leroy has been quiet about his future and we could see this saga drag on for some time…
An Inside the Club View
A constant part of transfers is hearing the media report about the numbers behind potential deals clubs are looking at making. However, there is a lot that goes into a club signing a player, and Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News has got some insight from key figure Omar Berrada on how the club goes about identifying and landing players they want. The tweet with a link to the full article can be linked above, but we will hit a couple major points from it here. Berrada is City’s chief operating officer, and he works with keeping the transfer business the club makes within the budget. Transfers and needs for the 2023 summer are already being discussed, showing how committed to being a step ahead the club is. The club goes far beyond the footballing ability of a player when conducting their scouting, and includes personality traits, family, entourage, and much more. A key emphasis lately has been put on character and temperament, with the club believing these two parts are extremely important to be successful under Pep Guardiola’s demanding nature.
Potential Departures this Summer
The journey of Eliaquim Mangala during his time in Manchester has been disappointing to say the least. After the promise of his time at Porto and his early performance against Chelsea in his first season, he has failed to live up to the promise. Injury has not helped his cause, but for quite some time it has been a question of when and not if Mangala will leave the Etihad. According to Soczu, Besiktas are interested in giving the Frenchmen the opportunity to play in Turkey. These links came up last summer as well, and it’s reported the club President is still keen on the centre back. City would request €3.5 million for the player, but Besiktas are offering only €2 million.
