Walk the Walk – Transfer Round-Up (19/06/2019)

Good Evening Blues! After yesterday’s hectic day full of plenty of transfer news, we have been given a bit of a rest. However, the first renewal of the summer has come, we have a bit more information on some of the usual suspects, and updates on the future of a couple youngsters gives us plenty to look at in our transfer roundup!

The First (of many?) Renewal!

We have been reading many reports on potential renewals in recent months. Leroy Sané seems to be in a constant state of limbo, with no one seeming to be sure if he will stay or if he will go. Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to be rewarded with a new contract for his fantastic performances last season, having impressed so much that attempts to sign Ben Chilwell of Leicester City have been abandoned.

But today, it is Kyle Walker who has officially signed an extension until the summer of 2024, courtesy of the club themselves. In recent days the news of this deal came through and with both sides eager to get a deal done negotiations were only a formality. Here’s to five more years, Kyle!

A New Centre Back Target

Late last night, news of a potential offer for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly came from La Gazzetta dello Sport. City have long been targeting Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax and Harry Maguire of Leicester City, but the price tags for each of these players have been deemed excessive. However, the report states the club are preparing a €95 million offer for the Napoli defender. The 27-year-old is said to be tempted by the idea of working with Pep Guardiola, and Napoli are in need of funds to reinvest into other areas of the squad. As relayed by Sport Witness, this sum of money is “creating apprehension”, as it is too high of a figure to be ignored.

But this morning, cold water has been dumped on this development. From James Ducker of the Telegraph, Manchester City are NOT looking to sign Koulibaly. This one was short lived…

No Competition for Cancelo

City have been long admirers of Joao Cancelo, and negotiations with Juventus have been taking place over a potential move to the Etihad Stadium. There have been other interested clubs, most notably Manchester United, but today Tuttosport reports that Manchester City now have no competition for the right-back. United have refused to put Pogba into any negotiations and Juventus have walked away.

With this news, City’s main focus has become selling Danilo to make room for the Portuguese international. The idea of adding the Brazilian into the deal was brought to the table, but this was rejected by the Juventus board. Once Danilo’s situation is resolved, City will offer €60 million.

Manchester City have offered Joao Cancelo a deal until 2024, earning €5 million a year, according to Nicolò Schira. Both clubs share the want to conclude the deal.

Youth News

Young City winger Uriel Antuna has been on loan with the LA Galaxy in the MLS, and according to ESPN Los Angeles, he has impressed during his time there. The American club’s director Dennis Te Cloese has stated he would like to sign or extend the loan of the 21-year-old once the current deal expires.

Manchester City and Millwall have agreed a compensation package for winger Samuel Edozie. There was competition from Chelsea for the 16-year-old’s signature, but City have completed the deal as will pay a high six-figure sum for Edozie, with add-ons that could potentially take the deal over £1 million, according to the South London Press.
