Sunday brought yet more developments on the Leroy Sane situation and who’s shocked? It seems like every day there’s yet more officials from Bayern Munich making their voice heard or further progress on contract talks. It certainly looks like this one could drag out for a while yet.
There’s also a slight change in the Matthijs De Ligt situation, however take this one with a pinch of salt. Although it’s a positive update, everything points towards yet more fabricated interest from the players’ agent, like we saw yesterday with Marcus Rashford.
Here’s your summary of everything transfer-related at Manchester City!
The final transfer story of Saturday night not only included a surprising development in the future of David Silva, but also brought about a familiar yet new name in the world of Manchester City transfers. The Sun claimed that El Mago may have played his last game in the sky blue of City after a £12 million tax-free ‘retirement jackpot’ was offered by an unnamed club in Qatar. The same report suggested that Youri Tielemans of AS Monaco may have caught the eye of officials at the Etihad Stadium following his impressive loan spell with Leicester City during the 2018/19 campaign.
This story may not have much standing judging by another recent update on the future of David Silva. It was stated by Sam Lee of Goal on Friday morning that the Spaniard is expected to stay at the club next season. That being said, the same report did state that Silva could still be on the move to Asia during the summer of 2020.
MOVING FOR MATTHIJS?
Yes, this one still hasn’t faded away. Despite all the strong reports linking Ajax’s wonderkid Matthijs De Ligt with a move to Barcelona, and most recently, Manchester United, French news outlet Le10 Sport claim there is still a chance of the teenager making the move to the Etihad Stadium. It is worth noting that the report was in fact citing information from a previous article from the Mirror.
We are going to state this as an update, however it wouldn’t be worth taking this one too seriously. The obvious was all that was stated – Manchester City are able to offer the Ajax captain stability at the club as well as Champions League football. Well, the neighbours from across town certainly can’t offer the latter can they?
And shortly after we reported this, yet more relatively obvious statements were made, this time by ESPN; claiming that Matthijs De Ligt, Ajax and FC Barcelona already have an agreement in place. This explains the sudden lack of interest by Manchester United and the turning of attention elsewhere by Manchester City officials.
THERE’S FURY IN MANCHESTER
It wouldn’t be a transfer round-up without yet another update on the future of Leroy Sane would it? Simon Mullock of the Mirror provided an update on the feeling within Manchester City on the repeated comments made by Bayern Munich officials on the supposed transfer itself.
Along with this came yet another price tag associated with the German winger. The Mirror claim that hierarchy at the Etihad Stadium are prepared to ‘slap’ a £100 million figure on Sane if the latest round of contract talks fall through.
And how ironic, just hours after this report came to our attention, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge decided it was only right that he provided yet more information on the saga, “We will try [to sign him]. I cannot predict today how it will end. But that would be a great transfer, of course.”
This one has certainly got a long way to go before it finds its conclusion…
THE BATTLE OF MANCHESTER
Tuttosport. Is there much more that needs to be said with this one? We’ll let you make your own mind up. Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo is attracting interest from both Manchester clubs, and not for the first time this summer if you believe everything that you’re told.
It is in fact the blue side of Manchester that are labelled as the ‘favourites’ for the signature of the 24-year-old. However, the Italian champions are said to have stamped a £53 million price on the Portuguese International. Somehow we can’t see this one lasting much longer before it is categorically shut down…
TEMPTATION AND DELIGHT
That’s ‘delight’ NOT ‘De Ligt’. However, this one is regarding a more than familiar name – it’s an update on Rodri, the midfielder the club reportedly highlighted as a priority target way before the 2018/19 season was over.
Spanish outlet AS claim Los Rojiblancos are concerned about a ‘soap opera’ developing with this transfer, that’s if there already isn’t one. Diego Simeone’s side want the situation surrounding the midfielder to be resolved sooner rather than later, whether that means a move to Manchester or a deal struck between the club and the player.
The player himself is said to be ‘delighted’ by the idea of playing the Premier League and is ‘tempted’ by the possibility and the proposals made by Pep Guardiola and officials at the Etihad Stadium.
