City Xtra Morning Round-Up – 7/5/19

An appropriately snarky start to your Tuesday.

Laporte Delivers Premier League the Assist of the Season

There’s absolutely no sense in trying to be clever or cute about it by burying the lede. Aymeric Laporte’s assist last night, an eight yard stunner that left the whole of the Leicester defense scrambling back recalls some of the finest moments of City’s recent history. A truly resplendent ball that Captain Vincent Kompany was able to take in stride, and in just three touches, tuck neatly home. The goal secured a crucial one-nil victory over Leicester City, and means that City can clinch the title on the seasons final day with a win over Brighton.

Glorious.

Pep Apologizes for Being Incredible

There was some interesting analysis from the City Manager last night after his side’s, “incredible,” 1-0 victory.

Aguero Furious With ‘Greedy’ Kompany

After the match, cameras captured an irate Sergio Aguero screaming at the Captain, “don’t shoot!” Could there be a rift in the dressing room between the two City legends? Could it be that Aguero, nervous of his 93:20 moment being usurped, has become jealous of the defender?

Bruno Joins ‘Almost Done FC‘ for €55m

Before all of that happened, we also got word that City’s pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes was perhaps nearing an endgame, as reports came in from highly reliable Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio that City and Sporting have ‘nearly’ finished a deal that would see the Portuguese sensation join the blue half of Manchester for €55m in the summer window.

If you haven’t yet read Xtra’s analysis on him, we’d recommend it. Or at least, I would, since I wrote it.

Kompany Earns a 12/10 in Our Player Ratings

A man of the match performance earns the Captain the highest rating I’ve given out in my debut attempt at our player ratings. Be sure to check it out and disagree with most of what I wrote, I know that’s what I always do when I read player ratings. Then be sure to follow me on Twitter and tell me how stupid I am.

Local Writer is Idiot

No seriously, I wrote THIS before the match.
