Manchester City once again returned to the top of the Premier League following a hugely important win against Manchester United that might go down as the most important of the season.
After a cagey opening 45 minutes, goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane carried the Blues to a huge victory at Old Trafford.
Here are the player ratings following an exhilarating night in Manchester that once again confirmed that the city is Blue.
Ederson – 8
Outstanding in goal, commanding his box like a general in battle. In a nervous affair, his blue blood eased City’s defence into a well-earned clean sheet.
Kyle Walker – 7
You always feel the right-back has a mistake in him, and he almost cost his team a goal by giving the ball away in the first half. Nonetheless, his trademark athleticism proved a constant attacking threat and he has to be credited for that.
Aymeric Laporte – 7
Got the job done. He certainly could have been better in dealing with the long ball but overall he was calm and kept possession well.
Vincent Kompany – 7
From a purely defensive standpoint, the captain was fantastic. That being said, he definitely felt like a liability with the ball at his feet and caused my heart rate to spike a couple of times.
Oleksandr Zinchenko – 8
An excellent young player, he proved once again tonight that despite his age he is consistently fantastic in big games in that left-back position.
Fernandinho – 8
Did the job he was supposed to do perfectly. The Brazilian shut down United’s possession often over the course of the game. That being said, his injury was perhaps a blessing in disguise as it allowed Gundogan to flourish.
Ilkay Gündogan – 9
A supreme display from the German midfielder. Moving into the #6 role was superb for City and they controlled the ball and the game brilliantly after this change.
David Silva – 9
This was, yet again, a demonstration in how to make your rival’s ground appear like your own back garden. Calm and composed throughout, David Silva kept the ball expertly and his forward pressure on United’s midfield and the defence was fantastic.
Bernardo Silva – 9 (Man of the Match)
Once again, Bernardo didn’t stop running and was simply magical all game. His opening goal was taken perfectly, and he consistently made all the right decisions. He showed us all why he is our player of the season.
Raheem Sterling – 7
Despite playing relatively poorly in the first half, his pace and agility unlocked United’s defence on several occasions throughout. He was unlucky to get a goal in the first half and capitalised well on some shambolic defending to set up City’s second.
Sergio Aguero – 6
Despite linking up well with the rest of the attack, the forward failed to make a real impact and rarely saw the goal. That being said, he did well to create space for Sane’s goal with some impressive movement to drag three defenders away from the winger.
Leroy Sane – 8.5
Electric after making his arrival. The young winger is clearly hungry for goals following an extended spell away from the front lines.
Danilo – N/A
Gabriel Jesus – N/A, but should get a slap for managing to be caught offside within 30 seconds of walking on the pitch.
