In what could be a defining month in the history of Manchester City, is it premature to be identifying Player of the Year candidates? With the performances of certain individuals up until this point in the season, the answer to that question would be ‘no’. Three attacking players have arguably been responsible for getting Manchester City to this position, or at least have played a major part in that success. Here are our early contenders for Manchester City’s Player of the Year for 2018/19!
Raheem Sterling
The most important Premier League player right now and one of City’s brightest stars this season. Raheem Sterling’s fight against racism and speaking out against media outlets for stoking the fires of hate speech, has been nothing short of ground breaking. On the field of play, Raheem has stepped up another level from an already high standard. His all-round play has never been better. He looks frighteningly dangerous every time he touches the ball. I honestly fear for defenders that come up against him. The best thing is as well, he’s still a young man and there’s still more to come from him in terms of progression. And it has shown in the past two or three seasons that Pep Guardiola is the right man to get the most out of him.

Bernardo Silva
Manchester City’s little starlet has been one of the most consistent performers this campaign and an all-round joy to watch. It’s a pleasure having Bernardo Silva play for this club. He is one of those players certain pundits would say is the type of player you would pay money to watch. I don’t think there are many other Premier League players around today who make it look so difficult to take the ball off. When the ball is at his feet, its near impossible to take off him. What I love about Bernardo the most on the pitch is that he never stops running, and never looks tired. He is always taking up positions he can get the ball and run at the opposition. Even when City don’t have the ball, he is always chasing it back with full steam. Off the pitch he seems like a really lovely guy and it’s no surprise that he is a fan favourite and a Player of the Year contender.

Sergio Aguero
Manchester City’s all-time record scorer is having an amazing season yet again. One of the favourites for the Golden Boot, Sergio has scored some absolutely wonderous goals this season, but also some very important ones too. Similar to Raheem Sterling, his build-up play and passing has been excellent this season and a big improvement on previous years. Without a doubt, Sergio will be integral to just how many trophies City will end this season with. The hope for every Manchester City fan from now until the end of the season is that Sergio does not get any more injury issues that keep him from playing in the last leg of what could be a ground-breaking season.

Maybe it is a little premature for us to be highlighting these three players as Player of the Year contenders given the importance of the month we have ahead of us, however surely these three will be the ones to fire City to success this month, if we are to see any…
