It’s been quite a day in the world of Manchester City news with no less than FOUR major developments reported today. Are we on the verge of seeing THREE more contract extensions at the club? Have City identified their number one midfield target this summer? Is a new left-back on his way to the Etihad Stadium? Here’s your round-up of today’s biggest reports!
We start off with suggestions that three more Manchester City players are on the verge of signing new deals with the club; and you couldn’t name three more popular players at the moment!
Mark Ogden of ESPN reported that both Leroy Sane and Oleksandr Zinchenko could both be signing new deals with Manchester City following their impressive performances throughout this season. This will be welcome news for all City fans, especially following the news earlier this week that the mother of the German winger was causing problems in negotiations, that according to the Mail.
The welcome news of more contract extensions at the club didn’t stop there with Vincent Kompany being the next name to undergo negotiations over a new deal. James Robson of the Evening Standard suggested this afternoon that despite concerns surround the captain’s fitness, the club, and in particular Pep Guardiola, were prepared to reward him for his services over the past decade with an extra year at the club.
After dozens of midfield names circling the twitter-sphere over the past few months, Mark Ogden and Moises Llorens of ESPN suggested that the blues are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez (24). Barcelona have been made aware of the situation as Manchester City look to be making firm steps for the Spain midfielder. It was also suggested in the report that a sum in the region of £90 million would be enough to secure his signature despite the La Liga club determined to hold out for £130 million.
And finally, there has been a major development in the story surrounding Ben Chilwell of Leicester City. An exclusive report from Foxes of Leicester confirmed that the 22-year-old is set to leave the King Power for Manchester City with a replacement already lined up by Brendan Rodgers. Harneet Singh Sethi of FoL stated in his report that “Chilwell to City is as good as a done deal, with the reasons for the sale not necessarily down to the Citizens’ strong interest or Leicester’s own financial interests.”
This does however raise several questions in regards to the futures of current Manchester City left-backs – Is this the end for Benjamin Mendy as a number one choice in this position? Is it also the end for Fabian Delph as a full-back option, or even as an option in general at the club?
